The Victims

The victims of the shooting have been identified as Deana Eckert, Juliana Farmer, Josh Barrick, Tommy Elliott, and Jim Tutt. He is reported to be in critical condition.

Following the shooting, Collin Rugg, co-owner of the conservative commentary news site Trending Politics, caused controversy by suggesting that the deaths were due to “pronoun extremists” and not gun violence. Rugg’s post on Twitter received over 14 million views. Many people criticized Rugg’s comments, with some pointing out that he also shares his pronouns on LinkedIn.

The Rise of Mass Shootings in the US

Statistics released by the Gun Violence Archive show that 146 mass shootings have occurred in the US so far this year. This includes the attack at a school in Nashville, Tennessee, which left six people dead, including three nine-year-old children. The alleged shooter, Audrey Hale, is a trans former student at the school. Hale legally purchased seven firearms from five different local stores, three of which were used in the shooting.
