Ike Barinholtz’s Run on Jeopardy Ends in Semifinals
Actor and comedian Ike Barinholtz’s impressive run on the Jeopardy: Tournament of Champions came to an end in Thursday’s semifinal round. The Mindy Project and Afterparty star, who became the first contestant to originate from Celebrity Jeopardy, finished in third place after a dramatic match against philosophy professor Ben Chan and quality control specialist Jared Watson.

A Slow Start, but a Strong Comeback
Barinholtz got off to a rocky start, incorrectly answering a question about Powhatan and dropping $1,000 into the red. However, he steadily regained his footing and ended the first round with $1,600, trailing the other two players by more than $5,000.
In the Double Jeopardy round, Barinholtz showcased his knowledge across various categories, including poetry, art, sports, and television. He answered multiple $2,000 questions correctly, entering Final Jeopardy with 10,400 – significantly ahead of Watson, who’d zeroed out, and just a few thousand behind Chan.
Final Jeopardy Proves Decisive
The Final Jeopardy category proved decisive in determining the outcome of the match. None of the three players answered the question about Aeschylus’ first surviving play correctly. However, Barinholtz wagered all of his winnings, landing him in last place with an even $0.
Chan emerged victorious by risking less, ending with $9,599. Ironically, Barinholtz would have won if he’d risked nothing. “It was a gutsy move, but sometimes risks don’t pay off,” said Jeopardy host Ken Jennings.
A Charitable Journey
Barinholtz’s journey on Jeopardy began with a victory on Celebrity Jeopardy last year, where he won over $1,000,000 for charity. “I actually used that money to buy a new boat,” the comedian quipped in his introduction on Thursday’s episode.
His appearance on the Tournament of Champions marked a historic milestone as the first contestant to originate from the celebrity edition rather than the standard show.
